School is not free in Uganda and parents often pay significant fees to cover school expenses. Bwindi Primary School charges a reduced fee rate of $6 to allow more children the opportunity to attend school when they otherwise could not afford it.

Children in Uganda go to school for three terms during eight months a year with breaks in May, September, December, and January. The total cost per student is about $70 a term, although Bwindi Primary School offers reduced fees to help families.
