Bwindi Community Kindergarten and Primary School Donation Suggestions

Covers parent fees for one child for a month

School is not free in Uganda and parents often pay significant fees to cover school expenses. Bwindi Primary School charges a reduced fee rate of $6 to allow more children the opportunity to attend school when they otherwise could not afford it.

Sponsors one child for a year

Children in Uganda go to school for three terms during eight months a year with breaks in May, September, December, and January. The total cost per student is about $70 a term, although Bwindi Primary School offers reduced fees to help families.

Classroom supplies can be expensive and difficult to obtain. The Ugandan government requires all schools to buy tests from the government, which adds extra costs to the classroom supply budget.

Food insecurity is common in Uganda. Common foods are often missing vital ingredients for a balanced diet leading to malnutrition. Approximately three in ten children suffer from undernutrition in Uganda. The meals provided at school help combat food insecurity.

Teacher absenteeism is a major problem in Uganda. Retaining teachers is vital to providing a quality primary education.
